VirtualBoss is very easy to install. You can be up and running within just a few minutes! If you follow these steps, you should have no trouble downloading and installing VirtualBoss to your computer.
If you have not yet downloaded VirtualBoss, please do so by visiting our download page. Run the VirtualBoss installer the same way you would run any other program. After choosing a destination to install to, the default being C:\VirtualBoss\, the program will run through the rest of the setup automatically!
Note: If you had a previous installation of VirtualBoss on your computer, the installer will default to that location!
Computer admins may be interested to know that the Apache web server is installed automatically alongside VirtualBoss. This is a key component to use Remote VirtualBoss. The default port for the Apache web server is 80. If another web server (such as IIS) is already installed and listening on port 80, this step is skipped during installation. This is an optional install, and can be toggled off during program installation.
After VirtualBoss finishes installation, you'll be asked to enter some User Information. This is for personalization purposes only, but it is recommended to at least fill out a company name, first/last name, phone number, and email address. This information is needed if you want to email work orders and schedules from VirtualBoss.
You may run into a message like this when running the VirtualBoss installer:
This is caused by a feature called "SmartScreen" that helps protect your computer. In this case, it thinks VirtualBoss is an unrecognized app. Simply hitting the "OK" button will cause the message to go away and you will not run the installer.
What you need to do is click on the "More info" option on the left side of the window. This will show you the option to run the installer anyway.
We have automated as much of the Remote VirtualBoss setup as possible. If you have successfully installed the desktop VirtualBoss software, you are almost ready to start using Remote VirtualBoss!
To test to see if you have successfully installed Remote VirtualBoss, try using this local web address: http://localhost
If the above link sends you to your login page, you have confirmed that Remote VirtualBoss is running on your computer! You still need to follow a few more steps to make this work online. To finish the setup, please refer to our Remote VirtualBoss Setup Guide.
